On May 28, Joshua Walker, 21, of Milford was found to be in possession of a firearm on the property of Milford High School. Walker was at the school in the parent pickup area after school dismissed.
According to police, Walker dropped a firearm as he exited the vehicle. A student observed him attempting to put the firearm back in his waistband and quickly notified school staff. School Resource Officer (SRO) S/Cpl. Golding, quickly made contact with Walker, detained him and removed the firearm from his person.
There is no evidence that Walker intended any harm to any person at the school nor were there any existing threats to any Milford School District Schools.
Walker was charged with possession of a firearm in a Safe School Zone, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of an untraceable firearm.
“The charge of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony stems from his having the gun on school property,” Sgt. Timothy Maloney said.
Walker was presented at JP Court 2 and was committed to the Department of Correction on $45,000 cash bail. He will appear at Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date for a preliminary hearing.
“It is important to recognize that the student, high school staff and the SRO all took quick and appropriate action,” Chief Cecilia Ashe said. “S/Cpl. Golding should be commended for his actions in immediately confronting the subject in the parking lot, using his training to de-escalate the situation and taking the suspect into custody without incident. This is just a small example of the great training and the bravery that our officers demonstrate each and every day.”
