Georgetown Fire Company is mourning the loss of David J. Rementer, Sr. who passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 29. Rementer was a proud veteran of the Delaware Army National Guard and a member of the Jaycees.
Born on June 2, 1941, Rementer was the son of Chester and Beatrice Rementer. He graduated from Georgetown High School in 1959. Rementer was also a Boy Scout leader and served as Vice-Chairman and Sunday School teacher at Georgetown Wesleyan Church. He will be remembered for his ministering to the residents of Harrison House Senior Living along with his grandson, Matthew Parker.
As a member of the Jaycees, many will remember his entertaining skits at their annual Hoedown fundraiser. He is also remembered for handing out Lifesavers, stating that “this lifesaver may not save you, but Jesus will.”
For 33 years, Rementer worked at the DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford where he was known as “Pard.” After retirement, he worked for Labcorp for 15 years and then another 16 years cleaning the office of Drs. Dustin and Eileen Davis at Georgetown Family Medicine.
Rementer is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth, his daughters, Dawn and her husband, John, Elliott; Pamela S. Parker; and a son David J. Jr. and his wife, Leslie. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Meghan Elliott, Kelsey Rementer, Mackenzie Rementer and his niece, Trudy Kruger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Alvin Kruger; his son-in-law, Bobby R. Parker, Jr. and his grandson, Matthew David Parker.
A celebration of life will be held on September 7 at Short Funeral Services, 609 East Market Street, Georgetown, De. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 PM followed by a funeral service at 2 PM. Graveside services will be immediately following in Union Cemetery, Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory.
