Marjorie M. McDonough Reichhold, 101, passed away on May 19. She was instrumental in the founding of Reformation Lutheran Church.
Reichhold was born in Gary, Indiana, to William G. and Grace Hobby McDonough. She moved to Pittsburgh before relocating to Milford in 1953. After moving to Milford, Reichhold helped organize the church and was a Welcome Wagon greeter for new families in Milford. She was very active in the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA) and Home Demonstration Club.
Learning to knit in college, Reichhold taught the craft to many area residents and knitted more than 500 Christmas stockings over the years for family and friends. She was also a docent for the Milford Museum.
In 1955, The Board of Home Missions of the United Lutheran Church was invited by Reichhold to investigate the potential for a church in Milford. After a survey, it was determined that a mission congregation would be welcome. The church was officially founded I 1956 and held services initially in the Odd Fellows Hall before moving to the Grange Hall. A parsonage was built on Lakeview Avenue and a new church constructed next door with a dedication on September 16, 1962.
Reichhold was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roy William Reichhold. She is survived by her children, Susan Keough and her husband, Frank; Nancy Haines and her husband, David; Jeannette Steele and her husband, Donn; and Bill Reichhold and his wife, Pam. She is also survived by her sister, Audrey Trent and her husband, Richard. Reichhold loved her ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren very much.
