Fortunata’s Bakery will celebrate their 10th year in business on Wednesday, March 10 with an official ribbon cutting at 10 AM. The bakery is located at 602 SE 4th Street in Milford.
Owned and operated by Ruth Clifton, Fortunata’s offers freshly baked items that range from crusty Italian breads to sticky buns. Clifton has over 15 years’ experience in baking. While many of her seven children were still young, Clifton worked as a baker’s apprentice to Armand Argenio, a fourth-generation Italian American baker, in the same location where her bakery is now.
“Then it was known as the Bread and Butter Bakery,” Clifton said. “When Armand retired, I decided to take it over, keeping everything I learned from Armand while adding a few modern techniques. The name comes from a stray cat that used to hang around the bakery which Armand named “Fortunata,” which means “luck” in Italian. The cat was feisty and sweet, putting a smile on our faces. We felt this bakery should embody her spirit.”
Fortunata’s is open Wednesday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, Saturday 8 AM to 3 PM and Sunday 8 AM to 1 PM. They are closed Monday and Tuesday. Their menu can be found on their website.
