On July 1 at approximately 8:35 AM, a Ford F-750, traveling southbound on Harbeson Road north of the Lewes-Georgetown Highway, left the lane of travel and hit several parked vehicles on Harbeson Road. The driver of the F-750, James Fisher, 33, of Ellendale, was seen removing a bag from the truck and hiding it behind a tree.
Upon arrival at the scene, Delaware State Police troopers observed multiple signs of impairment in Fisher, leading to a roadside Standardized Field Sobriety Test. They also located the bag which revealed several firearms that were reportedly stolen by Fisher, along with ammunition and ballistic vests. Although he suffered minor injuries in the crash, Fisher refused transportation to the hospital.
Fisher, who is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition, was arrested and taken to Troop 7 where he was charged with multiple crimes including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; possession of a firearm/destructive weapon if previously convicted of a violent felony; possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited due to prior violent crime or felony; possession of a weapon with removed; obliterated or altered serial number; theft of a firearm; driving under the influence of drugs and other traffic violations.
Fisher was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $25,530 secured bond.
