Milford School District Superintendent Travis Moorman looked back at 2025, providing insight into how the year impacted the district.
“Milford School District continues to experience steady enrollment growth in 2025, reflecting the broader population growth in our community. Since 2021, enrollment has increased by 5.8%. This growth has created capacity challenges across the district, particularly at MHS, while also reinforcing the importance of long-term planning and continued investment in facilities, staffing, and student supports to ensure high-quality learning environments for our students”
Moorman explained the district was challenged with committing to investing in additional classroom space while also understanding there would likely be a budget shortfall in Delaware.
“Local communities are being forced to compensate for these shortfalls through local revenue sources mainly collected through local taxes,” Moorman said. “Our District is fortunate to have a healthy reserve, but our lawmakers must understand that our fiscal responsibility cannot shoulder the burden of absorbing costs shifted to school districts by the state.”
The most positive change Moorman has seen this past year is remembering the district’s “why. This includes keeping students at the center of their work and focusing on fundamental, research-based instruction in classrooms.
“The district has applied for DOE’s Bridge to Practice grant to provide professional development for teachers and resources for students that support literacy access and skills development,” Moorman said. “Across the district, educators prioritize meaningful relationships, engaging learning experiences, and student voice. This shift helped strengthen school culture, reenergize staff and create learning environments where students feel supported, motivated and excited to learn.”
The district will continue to collaborate with community partners to support each student while also focusing on student wellness and ensuring families are connected to available resources when needed.
“The opening of Milford Middle School was a major milestone in 2025. The new facility has enhanced learning environments, improved student experiences and provided much-needed space to better support our growing student population,” Moorman said. “The opening stands out as a community-wide achievement, reflecting strong collaboration among voters, families, staff and local leaders who worked together to invest in our future.”
Moorman was proud that the building opened in September 2025, on-time, on-budget, and with no additional tax increase to property owners in the district.
