Sade Truiett, who took the position of Downtown Milford Coordinator in April 2025, provided insight into what she has observed related to the economic development of Milford over the past year.
“One of the most significant economic development shifts in 2025 was the continued growth of downtown Milford,” Truiett said. “Since April, we have welcomed seven new businesses, adding energy and diversity to our downtown core. This growth, paired with increased foot traffic driven by the Farmer’s Market, festivals and special events, demonstrated how coordinated programming and small business investment can directly support a thriving local economy.”
Truiett feels that the most positive change is that business owners are truly coming together in support of downtown efforts.
“In 2025, that support became more visible and more collaborative,” Truiett said. “Business owners showed up, built relationships and actively participated in initiatives led by the downtown nonprofits, creating a stronger sense of shared purpose and momentum.”
Truiett felt there was a noticeable shift toward collaboration over competition, giving Milford a more inclusive and connected feel last year. It seemed that business owners embraced a collective mindset which strengthened relationships and fostered a more welcoming, community-driven downtown atmosphere.
“The Fourth of July First Friday celebration stands out as a defining moment,” Truiett said. “Bicentennial Park was filled beyond capacity, with multigenerational families and community members coming together to celebrate, That evening reflected the heart and mission of Downtown Milford, creating spaces where people want to connect, feel welcome and celebrate community together.”
