Milford City Council approved the transfer of $6,100 from General Fund Reserves to cover the cost of demolishing and cleaning up a dilapidated garage located on Lover’s Lane in Milford. City Planner Rob Pierce explained that demolition is not included as a line item in the budget each year and that when the city had to pay for such projects, council would approve the transfer from General Fund Reserves on a case-by-case basis.
“This garage actually straddles property lines between 111 and 113, almost like a duplex,” Pierce said. “We obtained written quotes and MOB Ventures of DE, LLC, was the lowest bidder.”
Mayor Todd Culotta asked why the property owners could not come to an agreement to demolish the garage.
“I believe one property owner has the means to take it down but does not want to pay for both sides of it,” Pierce said. “The other property owner does not have the means and has asked for the city’s assistance. We’re helping both owners accomplish the goal they want, which is taking it down, then we will place the cost on their property taxes. One property owner wants to set up a payment plan and they can work with the Customer Service Department to accomplish that.”
Culotta pointed out that this would put a lien on both properties and Pierce stated that the property owners were aware of that requirement. The motion passed with a vote of six to zero with Councilwoman Madula Kalesis and Councilman Jason James absent.
