The Milford Community Cleanup, a partnership event between the City of Milford, Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford and Downtown Milford, Inc., is planned for Saturday, April 18. Check-in begins at 7 AM with the cleanup running from 8 to 10:30 AM. The first 200 people registered receive a free t-shirt.
“This is not designed as a fundraiser, but a community event that helps beautify our downtown area,” Chairperson Michele Webb said. “In the past, we have had Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, City Council members, school clubs and more participate.”
The Milford Community Cleanup began when Jo Schmeiser, Executive Director of CCGM, met with the president of Downtown Milford Inc. about partnering on events that would benefit Milford. The community clean-up seemed to be the best way to engage the community while also cleaning up the downtown area.
Clean-up volunteers meet at the gazebo in Bicentennial Park to pick up shirts and supplies, which are provided by Milford Parks and Recreation. The city designates areas of the city where volunteers are sent to pick up trash and debris.
Although this is not a fundraiser, sponsorships are available to offset the costs of supplies, water, snacks and the t-shirts. Each volunteer wears a brightly colored shirt so they are visible as they clean up the area.
Sponsorships are available online or by email. Volunteer registrations can be completed online as well.
