The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford, Downtown Milford Inc. and the City of Milford are partnering for the 5th Annual Community Cleanup on Saturday, April 12 from 8 to 10:30 AM. The first 200 people registered receive a free t-shirt.
“A few years ago the president of the chamber met with the president of Downtown Milford Inc. as well as their executive director where we discussed a possible retreat to see how we could partner on events that would benefit Milford,” Jo Schmeiser, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford, said. “We met in Arena’s conference room with Andy Stevens, who runs “Andy is my Coach,” where we brainstormed ideas.”
What came out of the meeting was a community clean up with the goal to get volunteers from Milford to help clean up the town. The first year, the chamber took the lead and began to reach out to other organizations to assist with the project.
“We talked to Brad Dennehy who told us that Parks and Recreation already held an annual clean up but that it was solely based along the river,” Schmeiser said. “When I asked him about expanding the coverage area, he said he would be happy to see that happen.”
COVID prevented the event from happening in 2020, but the event has been held every other year. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, members of City Council, school clubs and more have participated. This is not designed as a fundraiser for the Chamber but a community event.
“We do incur expenses, so we do offer sponsorships, but only to cover those costs,” Schmeiser said. “Milford Church of God provides water and snacks for volunteers while Milford Parks and Recreation assists us with the logistics. They pick the areas that need the most clean up and make sure that those picking up trash are safe. Each volunteer wears a brightly colored t-shirt, so they are visible as they clean up our community.”
Registration is available the day of the event and sign up is available by calling the Chamber at 302-422-3344 or DMI at 302-839-1180. Sign up is available online as well by visiting here.
