Milford City Council elections have been cancelled for April 26, 2025, as only one candidate filed for each of the four open seats. Although there will not be an election for council members, there may be a referendum planned for the same date in order to fund water projects in northern Milford. The referendum will not raise taxes nor will it increase utility rates, but will simply allow the city to seek long-term debt to cover the costs.
Retaining their seat on council are Dan Marabello, Ward 1; Nadia Zychal, Ward 2; and Jason James, Ward 4. Councilwoman Nirmala Samaroo chose not to run for reelection this year and her seat will be taken by Danny Perez.
“I believe in cultivating strategic partnerships which enhances the entrepreneurial spirit of our business community and our government leaders to create a thriving town,” Perez said. “I am an advocate for affordable housing, educational opportunities and a safe place to live, work and play.”
Perez ran for a council seat in 2024, losing the election to Michael Stewart who will now serve with him in representing Ward 3.
Born in 1950 n Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Perez will be the first Hispanic person to sit on council, replacing Samaroo who was the first Middle Eastern councilperson. Perez was raised in New York City where his parents emigrated when he was just seven months old. He attended and graduated from both a private elementary and high school in New York.
Perez served in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict from 1969 through 1976 as a radio communication analyst. He was honorably discharged and moved to the Arlington, Virginia area where he lived for 23 years.
In 1986, Perez opened his own tax practice after earning a Master of Science in Taxation from Southeastern University in Washington, DC. From 1994 to 1999, he hosted a live weekly radio talk show that addressed business and tax issues to the Hispanic population.
Perez moved to Milford in 1999, and he opened a tax practice in a local shopping center. He and his wife started a Spanish-speaking radio station, WJWL-900 AM in Georgetown, providing information to Hispanic communities until 2010. Perez is a member of various organizations in Milford, currently serving as the treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford.
The proud father and grandfather to four grandchildren, aged 14 to 31, Perez is the owner of Tax Management Services on Northwest Front Street and Riverlights Café.
