City announces hydrant flushing schedule

on April 10, 2025
Terry Rogers

City of Milford Public Works will begin weekly hydrant flushing starting May 5. Primary flushing days will be Tuesday through Thursday between 7:30 AM and 3 PM. Flushing could result in temporary discoloration of water throughout the ward and surrounding areas. Residents are encouraged to check water flow prior to usage.

The planned schedule is:

Stewarts Freeze Dried Candy Shop
  • Ward 1 and part of Ward 3 – May 5 to 9 – this flushing could impact Wards 2 and 3
  • Ward 3 – May 12 to May 16 – this flushing could impact Wards 2 and 4
  • Ward 2 – May 19 to May 23 – this flushing could affect parts of Ward 2
  • Ward 4 – May 26 to May 30 – although not likely, this flushing could impact all surrounding areas.

The city recommends running cold water for about five minutes or until the water runs clear and avoid using hot water to prevent drawing sediment in your hot water heater. If discoloration only occurs with hot water use, flushing the hot water heater may resolve the issue.

Although safe to drink, the city does not recommend doing laundry when discolored water is present. Discolored water may stain clothing. Should clothing become stained, rewash immediately with a rust remover product found at most local supermarkets. Refrain from using bleach as this will set the stain.

If discolored water persists after running cold water, please report to the city by calling 302-422-6616.
