Milford Public Library’s Christmas Tree Extravaganza collected $1,900 that they presented to a local family in need. The funds were collected from businesses, sponsors and individual donations. The family will use the donation to offset costs associated with a long-term cancer battle.
“We would especially like to thank Dolce Bakery & Coffee Shop as well as Richard Y. Johnson & Sons for their financial support and sponsorship,” Lea Rosell, Executive Director of the library said. “We hope our Milford community members will support their businesses with the same enthusiasm they exhibit when supporting Milford residents.”
Trees were decorated by the Milford Garden Club, the Bayside Country Figure Skaters, Cub Scout Pack 186, Fortunata’s Bakery and the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club. Visitors were able to cast a vote for the best tree with their donations and, for the second year in a row, the winner was the Milford Garden Club.
Every year, local groups and businesses decorate Christmas trees that are displayed in the lobby. Visitors make a donation toward their favorite tree and the proceeds are used for a worthy cause. This year’s recipient was a young woman who began battling cancer in 2019.
“Her battle continues today, the cancer spreads and she has to undergo numerous surgeries,” Rosell said. “That leads to recovery and rehabilitation which makes consistent employment difficult to sustain. We are so happy that we could be “neighbors helping neighbors” through our annual event while also bringing some beautiful holiday cheer to our library.”
