Carlisle Fire Company provided an update to Milford City Council for the second time in a month. The first report was on March 2 in a special meeting called when all meetings in January were cancelled due to illness and weather.
“We were pretty busy in February with fire calls, “Fire Chief Brennan Fountain said. “We had 98 responses with 63 in city limits and 35 outside of city limits. We had 55 in Sussex County and 35 in Kent County. Automatic fire alarms were still our top response with about 25 out of 98.”
Fountain explained that fire police were called out to assist the Milford Police Department during the snowstorm to assist with traffic as well. On the EMS side, Fountain stated that there were 418 calls with 293 in city limits and 125 outside of city limits. Of those, 261 were in Sussex County and 157 in Kent County. There were 297 transports to medical facilities and 94 of those were inner-facility transports.
“The busiest day was Thursday with 67 incidents and the busiest time of day between 4 and 5 PM with 35 incidents,” Fountain said.
Carlisle Fire Company is on track to open the new substation in Southeast Milford on or before March 31. The EMS quarter renovation is still in the planning process, and the third traffic control vehicle has been confirmed for delivery on or before March 31.
“We should have completed our hiring process for a new EMS supervisor before April 30th,” Fountain said. “I was here last week and there was a citizen in the audience talking about a quick response from the Carlisle Fire Company, Apparently, they were experiencing symptoms from a stroke and were transported in Milford to Bayhealth Medical Center very quickly. They were treated within the hour and Bayhealth was able to reverse the symptoms of the stroke.”
Fountain wanted to correct the record to say that this call came in during the fourth EMS call at the time for them, so Ellendale Fire Company was called in to assist. Fountain wanted to give Ellendale the credit for the quick response.
There were no questions or comments from council regarding the report.
