After an arrest for attempted burglary at the Milford DelOne branch, John A. Carey, Jr., 26, of Dover, was identified as a suspect in three other burglaries in Milford. All three burglaries occurred during the early hours of January 4, 2026.
According to an investigation, Carey was implicated in burglaries at My Sister’s Fault on Southwest Front Street, TJ Auto Repair on Marshall Street and Country Corner Market on Southeast Second Street.
“We are not great at answering the phone, we admit it,” My Sister’s Fault posted on January 7. “But, this time, there is a reason. Our bakery phone was stolen.”
The bakery commented that the phone was not the only thing stolen and that the police were investigating. They had turned over video footage to the police. On January 17, they posted again.
“Recently, our business was one of the ones affected by the recent thefts in our town,” the post read. “We didn’t share much at the time so the police could do their job and thye did. We’re incredibly grateful for our local police department for showing up, doing the work and taking care of our community and small business.”
According to police, Carey, who was incarcerated at Sussex Correctional Institution due to the DelOne incident, was charged and arraigned on January 15 with three counts of burglary in the third degree, one count of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of burglary tools, six counts of theft under $1,500 and three counts of criminal mischief.
He was issued a $30,000 cash bond and remains in the custody of the Department of Correction. He was issued a no-contact order with the victims and will appear at a later date in the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.
