Bayhealth is celebrating one of its own, James Tompkins, who has been named the recipient of the 2025 American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Senior-Level Executive Regent Award for Delaware. Tompkins serves as Senior Director of Operations for Rehabilitation Services at Bayhealth and was recognized for his exemplary leadership, innovation, and commitment to professional development within healthcare.
The ACHE Senior-Level Executive Regent Award honors leaders who demonstrate creative management, active participation in healthcare associations, and mentorship of others in the field.
John D. Shevock, FACHE, FACMPE, Bayhealth’s Senior Director of the Oncology Service Line and current ACHE Regent for Delaware, praised Tompkins for his servant leadership and impact across the organization.
“James has a remarkable approach to serving others,” Shevock said. “He leads with humility and empathy, constantly striving to improve.”
Tompkins credited his success to the influence of mentors and colleagues who shaped his career.
“No journey is ever walked alone,” he said. “I owe much of my success to the incredible mentors who have inspired me throughout my career, the leaders who have challenged me to grow, and the patients who trusted me in their care. Each has shaped me into the person I am today.”
Meredith Sullivan, MS, CCC-SLP, FACHE, MBA, Rehabilitation Services Manager at Bayhealth, highlighted Tompkins’ dedication to teamwork and staff development.
“James fosters collaboration and brings together all disciplines,” Sullivan said. “His commitment to nurturing talent is evident through his dedication to the clinical ladder program in rehabilitation.”
Tompkins was trained as a certified prosthetist prior to becoming a physical therapist. He has over 30 years experience in the practice of rehabilitation and has developed proficiency in clinical, academic and administrative areas. He has served on numerous national committees and workgroups related to rehabilitation. When not at work, he can be found hiking in the wilderness or enjoying Delaware beaches.
Tompkins was formally recognized at the Annual Breakfast with the Regents event on April 29 at the University of Delaware. Hosted by the ACHE of Greater Philadelphia Chapter, the event convened healthcare leaders from Delaware, Pennsylvania, and southern New Jersey to discuss industry challenges and honor those exemplifying excellence in healthcare leadership. Bayhealth proudly sponsored the event, reflecting its commitment to recognizing and supporting outstanding leaders in healthcare.
