With a continued partnership with Free Bikes 4 Kidz (FB4K) Delaware and Bayhealth has given more than 1,000 bicycles since the program launched in 2023. The partnership with Bayhealth led to the establishment of FB4K Delaware chapter of the national nonprofit.
“We’ve been thrilled with the enthusiasm for our community partners and volunteers that has allowed us to bring the joy of owning a bike to under-resourced kids and teens locally and be resourceful in recycling used bikes and parts to keep them out of landfills,” Bayhealth Chief Wellness Officer and FB4K Delaware Founder Dr. Tom Vaughan. “Having a bike encourages an active lifestyle away from screens that can open a child’s world and keep them healthier in countless ways.”
The mission of FB4K is geared toward sustainably furnishing bikes, along with new helmets, to kids in communities, providing a pathway to health, happiness and opportunity. The program relies on volunteer support, collecting donated bikes, refurbishes them and cleans them up throughout the year. The chapter partners with local non-profits and other charitable organizations to identify local youth most in need and match them up with a bike and helmet.
“We’re grateful for all the support that’s helped us reach 1,000 bike giveaways to deserving youth in our area,” Vaughan said. “This exciting milestone fuels our passion for continuing this important work to make a positive impact in the lives of many more.”
