Bayhealth has once again achieved Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a prestigious designation that reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to high-quality nursing care. The announcement, made in June, marks the third time Bayhealth has received this national honor, considered the highest accolade for professional nursing practice.
The Magnet Recognition Program sets rigorous standards for nursing excellence, innovation, and patient outcomes. Fewer than 10% of hospitals in the United States achieve Magnet designation, placing Bayhealth among an elite group of healthcare institutions nationwide.
“Magnet recognition is a tremendous honor and reflects our commitment to delivering the highest quality of care to this community,” said Bayhealth Chief Nurse Executive Rosi Wurster, DNP, RN, MPH, NEA-BC, FACHE. “To earn Magnet recognition once was a great accomplishment and an incredible source of pride for our nurses. Our repeated achievement of this credential underscores the foundation of excellence and values that drive our entire staff to strive harder each day to meet the healthcare needs of the people we serve.”
Magnet recognition is widely regarded as the gold standard in nursing excellence. Research shows that hospitals with Magnet status experience better patient outcomes, including higher satisfaction with nurse communication, better access to help, and improved discharge information. These facilities also report lower 30-day mortality rates and fewer instances of failure to rescue.
Additionally, Magnet hospitals tend to have higher levels of job satisfaction among nurses and reduced turnover rates, contributing to greater stability and consistency in patient care. This recognition also factors into national rankings; U.S. News & World Report includes Magnet designation as part of its criteria when evaluating “America’s Best Hospitals.”
The ANCC evaluates applicants through its comprehensive Magnet Model, which serves as a framework for measuring nursing performance, research, and outcomes. Organizations must demonstrate excellence in five key areas: transformational leadership; structural empowerment; exemplary professional practice; new knowledge, innovations and improvements; and empirical outcomes.
Bayhealth’s continued inclusion in the global Magnet community affirms its status as a leader in nursing excellence and a trusted healthcare provider for the region.
