At a recent meeting, Milford City Council approved a Municipal Annexation Plan of Services that will now be sent to the Office of State Planning. The plan was related to a request from the Iglesia Pentecostal La Senda Antigua – Milford Inc. to annex land on the north side of Johnson Road, approximately 650 feet of the intersection of Coastal Highway into the city.
“This is not an authorization of the annexation itself,” Rob Pierce, City Planner, said. “It is authorization for the mayor to sign the Plan of Services which was created by the city engineer and staff. The request is on a state supplied form and analyzes how the annexation area will be served with water, sewer, electric, police, fire and EMS.”
A review of the application provided in the packet given to council shows that Kent County Levy Court approved the request related to sewer as it would flow through the City of Milford’s local gravity collection system to the county pump station. Milford Police Chief Cecilia Ashe confirmed that the Milford Police Department would provide services to the land once it was annexed. A copy of the budget indicating the annexation was included was also provided.
“Once the state receives the Plan of Services, I believe they have 20 days to file a response back to the municipality and, at that point, we can schedule public hearings for formal action on whether or not we want to annex the property or not,” Pierce said. “So, again, this is not authorization for annexation, it’s just authorizing the mayor to execute the document so we can submit it.”
There were no questions or concerns from council after Pierce presented the information. The request was approved with a vote of seven to zero as Councilwoman Madula Kalesis was not present at the meeting.
