Milford Mayor Todd Culotta looked back at the City of Milford over the past year, describing what he felt were some of the most pivotal events. At the top of his list was breaking ground on the new Milford Corporate Center.
“Economic development, to me is my primary driver as mayor,” Culotta said. “Job growth and improvement in the community and all the things that come with it are what I like to focus on. The governor was here when we broke ground and we had the opportunity to share that with him and now that construction has started taking place, it is exciting.”
Culotta felt there was more economic activity in Milford in 2025. Culotta pointed out that, at one time, there were a lot of houses in disrepair, but that isn’t the case now.
“Houses are being bought up and improved, not just turned into rentals, but actually home ownership,” Culotta said. “Now we have a lot of people who are coming here from all over and not just buying new houses in developments but improving the existing housing inventory we have. I think about when I moved back here in 2015, what I am seeing now when I’m driving up and down the roads, it is amazing to see the progress we have made.”
Culotta also pointed out that there was very little vacant space downtown for new businesses, attributing that success to Downtown Milford Inc. and the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford who made it attractive to open a business in Milford.
“There has been a lot more interest in opening a business here,” Culotta said. “I think there’s been a lot more excitement around it and you are starting to see real investment. We’re seeing people take advantage of that and invest in it. Like Craig Aleman who sees opportunity here and is investing in multiple businesses to serve the community.”
As a contractor, Culotta understands that construction is not cheap and that when someone invests in the city, it should not be taken lightly. He feels development should be encouraged.
“The fact that we are moving along with the industrial park and the infrastructure that goes along with it, that is a heavy lift,” Culotta said. “We’re starting to see a lot of interest from various companies to set up a presence here and that will be a big deal for the look and the growth of Milford going forward.”
Culotta pointed out that the jobs created in the industrial park would be good paying jobs that will encourage young people to remain in Milford.
“That money goes right back into our community and improves schools, improves streets, improves services,” Culotta said.
