Downtown Milford Inc. announced that their 250th Anniversary Picnic in the Park Celebration will continue on Friday, July 3, but in order to avoid the extreme heat predicted during the day, the event will begin at 6 PM rather than 5 PM. The laser light show will continue at 9 PM with Mike Hines and the Look performing from 7 to 8:30 PM.
“Although the event was already planned for the evening, we wanted to be sure that vendors and entertainment would not be setting up during the extreme heat of the day,” Sade Truiett, Executive Director of Downtown Milford Inc. said. “The weather forecast is for the temperatures to drop into the 70s by evening, so delaying one hour should make it less dangerous.”
In addition to delaying the event by one-hour, Downtown Milford Inc. is also offering a cooling tent that will allow people to get out of the sun. There will also be two misters set up in Bicentennial Park that will allow people to cool off.
“We are also giving away free water and electrolyte drinks,” Truiett said. “There will be hydration stations set up where anyone can grab a bottle of cold water during the event.”
Carlisle Fire Company will have an ambulance on site should there be any medical emergencies.
“We are thrilled to bring this event to downtown this year,” Truiett said. “The laser light show is something that has never been done in Milford. It is dog-friendly and much better for those who suffer from PTSD or sound sensory disorders. Those who have light sensory disorders should use caution, although sitting far away from the light show should be no more impact than watching a movie in a theater.”
Vendors are still able to set up starting at 3 PM but are able to delay arrival now until 4 PM with the setup deadline at 5:30 PM.
