With five games remaining in the regular season, the Milford girl’s lacrosse team was in need of a solid finish to solidify their spot in The DIAA State Tournament. Milford would go on to win four of those games to secure the #13 seed in the annual event. On Tuesday Milford traveled up north to battle Wilmington Charter, the Buccaneers would emerge with a 13-5 victory under sweltering conditions.
Senior Isabel Betts would set the tone for Milford as she recorded four goals in the game. Joining Betts on the score sheet, would be junior Katelyn Joseph with three goals along with Molly Masten and 8th grader Morgan Seilheimer with a pair each. Junior Julianne Dickerson and senior Tristan Showell would record a goal apiece. Senior Madison Stahl would record six saves for the Bucs.
Reaching out to coach Megan Fry, she was pleased with the effort of her squad.
“When you take into account the heat and travel involved, we started out a bit slowly. However, we really took control of the game in the third quarter and opened up a big lead against a good team in Charter,” Fry said. “We really began working well both on offense and defense, we kept that energy going through the entire rest of the game, we never let up.”

The tournament win was the first ever for Milford, after qualifying for the tournament for the first time last season. It was a big step for the improving program.
“That shows the dedication, growth and hard work this team is putting in every day. I’m extremely proud of this team and excited to see what the future holds for us.” Fry stated.
It does not get any easier for Milford as they will travel north once again to face #5 seed Archmere in what promises to be a much stiffer test.
“Archmere will be a very tough test for us as they have some very strong players, especially on offense,” Fry said. “We can score as well, so we will need to come out strong and play Milford lacrosse from the start of the game, hopefully it turns out in our favor.”
Thursday’s game is set to start at 4 pm.
