Rotary Scholarship applications, offered by the Milford Rotary Club, are now available for students to complete. There are seven scholarships offered by the club as well as two funded by the Dr. Joseph L. Warnell Charitable Trust.
“The Milford Rotary Club is very excited about the Rotary scholarship opportunities offered this year,” Robin Sirkis, Coordinator, Milford Rotary Club Educational Foundation, said. “Criteria for all scholarships require residence in the Milford School District, even if the student never attended Milford High School.”
All scholarships are awarded based on the student’s leadership, character, citizenship, academic achievement and quality of an original essay. Some Rotary scholarships are for students entering any field of study after high school, such as the Rotary Traditional Scholarship for $2,500. Others are for students entering a specific field of study, such as the Rotary Warnell Scholarship, for students who plan a career in science or mathematics.
“Our Rotary Interact Sponsorship for $2,500 is awarded to a student who is a member of the Interact Club,” Sirkis said. “The Rotary Service Above Self Scholarship for $2,500 emphasizes community service while the Rotary Perseverance Scholarship emphasizes the applicant’s perseverance.”
Created by the family of Dr. William Warren, a long-serving, respected teacher in Milford, the Dr. William Warren Scholarship, is a $2,500 scholarship and preference is given to students entering the field of education.
“New this year is the two Dr. Joseph L. Warnell Charitable Trust Scholarships. Awardees will receive the equivalent of tuition, room, board, books and supplies at the University of Delaware, currently $38,000,” Sirkis said. “These scholarships are available for renewal up to three additional years. The applicant must plan to or currently be pursuing an undergraduate degree in science, technology, engineering, math or any other major that can or will lead to a career in the field of healthcare for humans or animals.”
Applications for the seven $2,500 scholarships can be found online through the Rotary scholarship page while the Warnell scholarships can be found through the charitable trust page.
