Do you enjoy gardening? Are you interested in learning more about plants, making your garden beautiful or how to promote pollinators in your yard? If any of this sounds interesting to you, the Milford Garden Club is the perfect place to go. The club is currently seeking new members for events, educational programs and more.
“Our monthly meetings are engaging and educational, offering programs on gardening techniques, floral and creative designs,” Linda McDevitt, Marketing Chair of the club said. “Everyone is welcome, no matter your experience level, to learn, connect and grow together while making a meaningful difference.”
Founded in 1966, the Milford Garden Club is dedicated to enhancing the beauty and environmental health of the greater Milford area. Members continue the legacy by sharing their love of gardening, floral design and community service. The club has provided educational programs at the Milford Public Library, Food Bank of Delaware, Milford Place and more.
“From September through May, we offer our general meetings and programs,” McDevitt said. “We also do community service throughout the year, including holiday greenery at the Parson Thorne Mansion. In October, we offer our plant sale fundraiser in partnership with the Parson Thorne Antique and Artisan Market.”
Other events include a December holiday luncheon, February winter social, March spring tea, June summer picnic and flower show at Mispillion Art League, July Garden Tour, August summer social, quarterly craft workshops and learning opportunities from state, regional and national affiliates all year.
“Through the garden club, you can make lasting friends, create an environmentally friendly garden, help publicize sustainable practices, learn about invasive plant species and nourish pollinators with native gardens,” McDevitt said. “We also provide information on practicing water conservation, support local non-profits and offer a University of Delaware scholarship.”
The club meets on the first Wednesday of each Month at the Milford Parks and Recreation Office, 207 Franklin Street in Milford. The meeting begins at 9 AM with a social period and the meeting lasts from 9:30 to 11 AM.
