Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus (Level III) Trauma Program Coordinator Sharon Rigney, MSN, RN, CEN, has been awarded the highly competitive TEAMS Scholarship for Trauma Leadership 2025. Rigney is one of only eight recipients selected from more than 100 applicants across the nation.
Rigney’s connection to Bayhealth began years ago during her clinical rotation in the emergency department—an experience that sparked her passion for emergency medicine. After more than a decade serving as an emergency department nurse, she transitioned into her current role as Trauma Program Coordinator, where she has focused on mentorship, education, and improving trauma care through evidence-based practices.
“Sharon is deeply committed to building collaboration, mentoring others, and driving evidence-based practices that strengthen our trauma program,” said Bayhealth Trauma Program Manager Deborah Eberly, RN, BSN, CEN, CNML. “This scholarship is a testament to her vision and the positive impact she has on our patients, team members, and community.”
The TEAMS Scholarship is designed to equip trauma leaders with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to excel in their field. Recipients receive full tuition for leadership-focused trauma courses and gain opportunities to connect with peers, exchange innovative ideas, and apply new strategies to enhance trauma systems nationwide.
Rigney said the recognition is both humbling and motivating.
“I aspire to lead like those who mentored me – with knowledge, compassion and purpose,” she said. “The TEAMS Scholarship is an incredible opportunity to strengthen my leadership and financial management skills, broaden my understanding of trauma program infrastructure, and enhance our performance improvement processes. My goal is to ensure Bayhealth’s trauma program remains strong, make thoughtful investments, and improve patient care through data-driven initiatives.”
