After 35 years, the Milford Community Parade still did not fail to delight thousands who lined the streets to watch 12 marching bands, dozens of floats, fire engines and more as they traveled along Walnut Street from Milford Middle School to Milford High School. The parade kicked off at 6:30 PM and did not end until almost 9 PM.
The weather was perfect with most sitting along the parade route wearing light jackets or sweatshirts. A few wrapped in blankets but it was not anywhere near as cold as it was previous years. A slight breeze cooled the air, but for many, it made it seem even more like fall.
Politicians waved from floats and vehicles while some walked the entire route. Senator Dave Wilson waved as he walked his dogs through the parade while Representative Bryan Shupe walked with his children by a float decorated like a football field.
The theme for this year was “It’s Game Time” and many organizations as well as businesses found unique ways to fit the theme. Monopoly, Candy Land, Uno and Cards Against Humanity were just a few of the games depicted as well as sports and video games. Chairs began appearing in front of houses as early as 8 AM as people staked their favorite viewing spot. Some found spots at the last minute, posting on social media about their discovery.
“Found a nice bench to watch the Milford Community Parade with my boo,” Angela Dorey posted. “He bought me cookies from Dolce.”
Milford Tavern enticed people to watch the parade in front of their business in another way.
“Tonight, the streets will come alive with festive spirit, and we’re right in the heart of it at Milford Tavern!” their post read. “To keep you warm and toasty while you enjoy the festivities, we’re serving our delicious Spiked Apple Cider! Warm, spiced, and infused with your favorite spirits, our apple cider is the perfect companion for an evening of celebration.”
