August 15 at approximately 3:49 PM, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Solomon’s Island Road (Route 4) and Coster Road in Lusby for a serious motor vehicle accident. Because the accident was severe, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit responded as well.
The preliminary investigation found that a 2004 Honda Civic driven by Anthony Valentine, 18, of Milford, was traveling southbound on Solomon’s Island Road approaching Coster Road. A juvenile female was in the front seat of Valentine’s vehicle.
A 2011 Toyota Avalon, operated by Hollis Clinton Ruoff, Jr., 95, of Silver Spring, attempted to make a left turn from Solomon’s Island Road onto Coster Road. The Honda struck the passenger side of the Toyota. The two vehicles traveled to the right side of the roadway, colliding with a 2015 Dodge Dart, operated by Dale Young, Jr., 33, of Lusby. They also collided with a 2017 Ford Explorer operated by Karen Nolin, 60, of Prince Frederick. Both those vehicles were stopped at a traffic light on Coster Road.
Valentine and the juvenile, whose name is not being released due to her age, were transported to regional trauma centers via Maryland State Police Aviation Command with serious injuries. Young was transported by ground to Calvert Health Medical Center for minor injuries. Ruoff was transported by ground to Calvert Health Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Nolin was treated and released at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy First Class M. Lewes #6643 of the Crash Reconstruction Team at 410-535-2800 or by email at [email protected].
