The holiday season kicks off in just a few weeks and there are those already planning their shopping lists. Since 2010, the Saturday after Thanksgiving has been designated as Small Business Saturday, encouraging shoppers to visit small, locally owned stores for their gift needs.
Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday® has become one of the most important days of the year for the entrepreneurs who give downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts their character. This year on Saturday, November 28, communities across the country will once again rally to Shop Small®.
In Milford, Small Business Saturday is also the day that Santa arrives at his house to accept lists from boys and girls in the area. Santa arrives at 11 AM on a Carlisle Fire Company truck, led by Milford Police Department and followed by additional Carlisle Fire Department vehicles.
“This is the perfect day to bring the littles in to see Santa and then do some shopping in our downtown businesses,” Sade Truiett, Executive Director of Downtown Milford Inc. said. “We have such a unique group of businesses downtown that you should be able to find gifts for almost everyone on your list.
This year, Main Street America will once again team up with American Express to bring fun and exciting activities to Small Business Saturday. Downtown Milford Inc. is one of only four accredited Main Street programs in Delaware and will be taking advantage of the resources available to them to promote locally owned businesses, not only in the downtown area, but throughout Milford.
“We have a very large footprint,” Truiett said. “We serve areas along Rehoboth Boulevard, North Walnut Street and as far as Not Too Shabby on Northwest Front Street. Our entire town is made of up of so many outstanding small businesses we want everyone to see shoppers throughout the holiday season and beyond.”
